Coincidence or Fact

Is the Jesus of the New Testament the Messiah promised in the Old Testament?
There are more than a dozen predictions of Jesus birth and death in the Old Testament which was written more than seven hundred years before the birth of Jesus.  The predictions are not so general that they could be interpreted in any manner (you will meet a tall, dark stranger) but contain specifics as to place, manner and people involved.
Could the fulfillment of these predictions be merely a coincident?  No!  The probability of just 8 of those prophecies being filled by chance is one in one hundred billion.

"But the things which God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ should suffer, He has thus fulfilled" Acts 3: 18

Courage to be You

If I were to tell you, you were a courageous person, what would your reaction be?  You would probably recount all the things that make you afraid, the times you failed or mention someone who has faced so many more obstacles than you.
None of that matters to God.
He made you as you are.  You are one of a kind and God did that on purpose.  He made you and the only you that is you.  You are the most rare individual on this earth because you are the only one.  When it is your time to die, there will be no you left.
The you that is you is beautiful to God because He created you. Solomon 4:7

It takes courage to be yourself, to stand alone with the individual characteristics that you were given. Many people try to be someone else: a famous entertainer, wealthier, busier, less busy.  Some Christians try to be like a well known evangelist.  But, if you are content to be who God created you to be, you are showing your trust in Him.  If you stay true to who you are, no matter the outside pressure, you are courageous.

Counting the Cost

I'll fight the night until I see the SON for greater is He in me than he who is in the world.  We fight for respect, we fight for exposure, we fight for our loved ones and for our marriage.
When was the last time you fought for what matters MOST?  Do you have a daily intake of God's word?  When was the last time you focused on praying rather than going through the motions as though it were something to mark off your 'to do' list?
When was the last time you meditated on the words of our Savour?  He fought and died for us-can we do less for Him.

How big is Your God?

Do the words "it is finished" actually resonate with you?
When you fail or falter are you thinking about these very words?
As a Christian redeemed and purchased by the justifiable blood of the lamb are you focusing on your mistake and magnifying your sin, or are you meditating on His promise that He has PAID for your sin in full?
Whether or not it "feels" as though you are forgiven  in the moment of failure and shame does not identify you before the Father God...... HIS SACRIFICE DOES!!!!
If our sin is the director of our spiritual status rather than His sacrifice, then its not about His sovereignty but our unfaithfulness.

How big is the God you serve?

Joshua 1: 9

Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous. do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go,.

Walking the Talk

We as Christians sure can talk the talk; Sanctification, Omnipotence, Servant, but do we really walk the walk? When it comes down to it,  are we actually willing to BOLDLY declare the truth of God to a world veiled in it's darkness? Are we willing to get our hands dirty in order to see the "crop" of God's field? Do our lives affect others to be more Christlike? Think of it this way. If people you came in contact with relied solely on what you said, how you acted and what YOU taught them, would it be Biblically accurate? This may sound as though it's FAR to much to ask from a lowly sinner saved by Grace BUT that's exactly what took place in Thessalonica amongst the first generation believers!!! Paul delivered the Word of God when visiting, then followed with a letter that said....

1 Thessalonians 1:7-10

New King James Version (NKJV)
"7 so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come."
The people of Thessalonica were so affected by Paul's visit, sharing and example that, before he could even follow up with a letter of direction, they were already bearing fruit of the Spirit!
So the question is...... Is your life an example to sinners?

Food and Fun Run

Chetwynd Community Church is pleased to be sponsoring the first annual motorcycle food and fun to support the Burk's Falls food bank.
Originally scheduled for Sept. 7th, the cool and rainy weather caused the date to be changed to Oct. 5th.
Riders are asked to gather at the municipal lot in Burk's Falls which is beside the Home Hardware on Ontario St. at 10 a.m.  We will be leaving the lot at 10.30 and touring through the  Almaguin Highlands and Muskoka areas.  The trees should be in full colour which will add to the enjoyment.
The ride will end at the church parking lot for refreshments.
Participants are asked to bring non-perishable items for the food bank.  Cash donations will also be gratefully accepted.
